    FluxAds leaves DirectTrack for Cake

After suffering a week-long outage back in February, who wouldn’t?

Seems like ClickBooth is also departing for Cake.

The cake might be a lie, but it works really well for affiliate marketing.

Their PR handling of the affair looks pretty non-existent I will add. When you fuck up like this, its fairly easy to get back on the right track – you have to have the balls to man-up and do it, though. It involves at least these three simple elements:

1 – Putting a link on the homepage and making a public statement about the outage.

2- Explaining CLEARLY what happened including an “It was us” statement – don’t shift blame.

3- Explaining why this can’t ever-ever-ever ever happen again.

Speaking of apologizing effectively, this is the way Dale Carnegie and several other describe it as a really effective way. Needless to say, this only works once.

Tracking Revisited – Looking for Suggestions

I’m out looking for a good PPC and general tracking solution (general as in: I’d love to track mailing lists too!).

I have Tracking202… I use 202 Pro, which I understand Wes plans to discontinue in favor of self-hosted. I gotta say I’m not thrilled at all about 202. Is this really the best out there?

Going to check out Statsjunkie, w3roi, and running a self-hosted 202 instead of 202Pro.

If you have a suggestion here…. Pretty please share them.

Thanks for the tip. There’s a ton of stuff missing from P202 – specifically its hard to operate with it. It doesn’t reflect your PPV accounts at all (it not a feature) and it lacks any way to do things like tell it to ignore a particular keyword since you’ve remove it, or tag things so you can keep track of what you’re doing. I find myself writing down on a text editor the list of things to do, and sometimes doing it twice because I forget. I’m going to sit on the bench for a bit with BevoMedia, though – I cant’ be everywhere at once.

Another conversion last night! Yay!… And I think I figured out what the problem is with Google conversion tracking. I’m a little disappointed I have to tell it the dollar amount that a conversion is worth to me – if I sell more than a single product/variant via Clickbank, its all going to track the same value. How does Yahoo do this? I don’t know, but somehow they figure it out.

Google is taking my conversions as $1, which is throwing everything off. Agh! I don’t quite understand their conversion setup – I’ll have to fiddle.

Google going bananas? Yahoo recorded the conversion a few hours later, thanks to Clickbank allowing this conversion tracking. Now I go into Google and its showing there was a conversion – which I would think is ANOTHER conversion. I log into Clickbank and my tracking and see no such thing. Is Google telling me about the conversion that Yahoo brought in? WTF?
