Amazon Affiliate Sushi Box Blows Ass

I’m trying the Amazon “Nakamaste” or whatever the heck oriental name they have for their “automatic” box. Here I go, telling myself the wonderful story that it’s going to be like Google AdCents, but with better targetting since they know half the people that are likely to visit my site, and they can comb my site for relevant meta information.

Dead fucking wrong. I’ve tried a few simple experiments with several “clean” IPs and some “used” ones if you will… My conclusion in two words: Sucks Ass.

Perhaps the most rabidly irritating behavior is that the little box tries to push the Amazon Kindle very-very-very hard. That’s utter bullshit. Amazon is my guest on my site, not the other way around. That little “system” has worn their welcome.

Now I’m going to actually have to think what to put in that space. Agh! Dammit!

BlackHat World – The Dark Side of the Cheese

Sharing a link that I’ve found… “intriguing” in the past.

    Black Hat World

Whenever I go there I always learn something. The audience is really very technical – the “Black Hat” they’re referring to is 99% on the technology side. I’ve yet to see anything on naughty marketing techniques.

Today I stopped by Black Hat World looking for the “ShomoneyX” course. Its free at shoemoneyx.com but Jeremy has it on an autoresponder that takes three freaking months to deliver it complete – 12 installements, one each week. I’m on week 1.

Well, you get the picture. In ten minutes I went from Week 1 to Week 12.

Like I said, I always learn something. In this case I just learned what “WordPress Cloaking” means. Essentially they show a blog to the search engines and forward live users to an offer page. Call me clueless, but setting that up seems like a waste of good time that can be used in building something real – not a card castle.

Anyway – Here’s more info on WordPress Cloaking is that floats your boat: Simplified SES and WPCloacker with some informative videos.

Changing Clickbank Affiliate ID in the middle of a Subscription?

I just realized the affiliate commisions from my PPC Bully 2.0 subscription are NOT coming to me. I rememeber when I signed up with a blank ID. Back then (November?) I didn’t have a Clickbank account and it hadn’t dawned on me I could be my own affiliate and get a discount. Damn. I’m going to have to “rectify” this.

I wonder… Is there any way to change the affiliate associated with a subscription without canceling and signing up again? Should I give Clickbank a ring?

‘Hacked’ the offer site – WTF!

I’m finding tons of signs that the product I’m promoting is done by a complete n00b – I mean, I’m brand spanking new, but these guys are beyond belief. Out of curiosity I checked out the robots.txt file on the offer site and it contained a map of all the pages nobody is supposed to see. I went to all the pages – They’re all unsecured (don’t need any cookie or anything) and I could actually snag the product – which I already had via a torrent, but I snagged a new and enhanced version… No hacking involved, all I did was look at a fricking map that every search engine and bot would look for. Yes, a map.

Now I’m trying to figure out why the hell Google is tracking a conversion not he home page but not on the ads. So I decided to pay the “Secret” pages a visit and look at their source.

It hadn’t dawned on me that one of these is on the check-out path and contains a self-running video. Interesting bit, the video is hosted on YouTube. I didn’t know YouTube allowed private videos to play without athentication. Turns out, they don’t. The video is public. Nice. I can see the upload date and the number of views. Who does this shit??

Google going bananas? Yahoo recorded the conversion a few hours later, thanks to Clickbank allowing this conversion tracking. Now I go into Google and its showing there was a conversion – which I would think is ANOTHER conversion. I log into Clickbank and my tracking and see no such thing. Is Google telling me about the conversion that Yahoo brought in? WTF?

First affiliate Sale! Score! This came in yesterday, but of course this little thing was down… I was slowly losing hope.. Now its back. I can work on and improve on *something* – But if I don’t have anything to improve on, it becomes very difficult. Anyway, take a look at this collage snapshot of Clickbank and Yahoo – the sale came through Yahoo – Whoever had that 67 IP address yesterday, probably from Little Rock, Arkansas: You are my hero.

What I can see is that it took me $18.57 to make $26.30. Not bad. Then again, I have no clue what’s good or bad since I don’t have a feel for my fixed costs. All I know is spending more than I’m making is bad – just not sure how much clearance I need between these two numbers. With only sample, this is statistically irrelevant.

Woha… Google started sending traffic… Other than a swarm of bots… and its traaackiiiinng. That tracking thing is crazy complicated and simple – just no good explanations out there. Totally want to write a good explanation of what is happening. So wanted to have an outlet like this as I was setting that up over the weekend.
